The kitchen is straightforward for a new renter because a lot of of your bigger items -- such as the stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher -- are already in your apartment. You only really need a place to eat in the dining area, but we recommend being able to seat at least four. Even if you live alone, it’s nice to have room for a meal with family or friends.

Essentials:

• Dining room table and chairs (for at least 4 

• Silverware, plates, and glasses (4 place settings)

• Mugs

• Kitchen scissors, spatula, can opener

• Microwave-if not provided

• A basic skillet or frying pan

• A cookie sheet

• A good chef knife

• Pot for boiling water

• Oven mitts

Also Nice:

• Shelves or a buffet for storing extra dishes

• Coffee maker

• Cooking spices

• Dish soap and scrub brush

• Toothbrush, toothpaste, and other individual toiletries

• Shampoo

• Bath and hand towels

• Shower liner, curtain, and hooks
